There’s some exciting news from the McGhee’s bakery.

As we celebrate our 90th year, we’ve officially been named Scotland’s most-chosen Scottish food and drink brand in the latest Worldpanel by Numerator Brand Footprint 2026 report.

The annual report ranks the country’s favourite grocery brands based on Consumer Reach Points (CRPs) – a measure of how many households buy a brand and how often they choose it. This year, McGhee’s climbed to the top of the Scottish rankings, moving ahead of last year’s leader, Irn-Bru.

The ranking reflects a remarkable year of growth for the business. McGhee’s recorded the highest CRP growth of any Scottish brand, increasing by 20.4% to 16.63 million, while reaching 1.33 million shoppers across the country. Almost half of Scottish households (49.5%) now buy McGhee’s products, with continued growth across favourites including bread rolls, potato scones and small cakes.

For us, it’s a milestone that feels particularly special.

Founded in 1936 in Glasgow’s Maryhill, McGhee’s began with a simple ambition: to provide honest, affordable baking for the local community. Ninety years later, we’re still family owned, now in our fourth generation, supplying everything from morning rolls and tattie scones to pancakes, doughnuts, empire biscuits and shortcakes to homes, cafés and retailers across Scotland and beyond.

The past year has also seen continued investment in innovation and growth. We’ve delivered 30% year-on-year growth for key retail partners, invested in new bakery equipment, refreshed our brand and launched new products, including our sourdough roll and individually wrapped empire biscuits, now available in meal deals at Tesco.
