Amongst other dietary idiosyncracies Glaswegians have a love of burnt bread rolls, as opposed to the soft, bappy things they sell in England. Thus it was that David Cameron visited McGhee's the famous family bakers, makers of crispy, hard-line, see-you-Jimmy rolls.
On a flying trip to the Glasgow North East constituency to support Ruth Davidson, the Tory candidate, he toured the factory which feeds much of the West of Scotland with bread, cakes, potato scones, biscuits and confectionery.

Mark Prisk Visits Our New Factory
We had a visit from Mark Prisk (Shadow Business Minister) to show off our new factory.
It provided an opportunity to discuss our bakery operation in more detail as well as our business ideas for the future.
Since 2002, Mark has served on the Conservative frontbench as Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Shadow Paymaster General and then Home Affairs Whip. In December 2005, he was made Shadow Spokesman for Business & Enterprise and this role was confirmed in July 2007 with a wider brief on Enterprise, Deregulation and Competition. In July 2007 he was also appointed Shadow Minister for his home county of Cornwall.

St Rochs Secondary School
Work Experience
McGhees Bakery invited some of the pupils from St. Rochs Secondary School to come along and gain some work experience with us for the day.
Lee Smart, Salad Abdi Salad and Rasath Jeyakumar assisted with the day to day operation of running the bakery from: Administration, Engineering to Production.
The guys had a wonderful time and left with some crispy rolls for their tea!

Having become established at the new state of the art factory now for 4 years McGhees Bakery are now close to the completion of a new despatch bay, and in addition of further production capacity that will enable McGhees Bakery to meet the changing demands of the marketplace, as well as to incorporate the Hayes operation which was acquired in 2007.

SAMB Help Raise Money For Children's Charities.
This is a cheque being presented by Ross Hamilton (Sales Manager) from McGhee's Bakery on behalf of Scottish Association Of Master Bakers No. 4 region, to Radio Clyde for Cash for Kids, following the annual dance, Feb 09, in the Raddisson Hotel Glasgow, at which Suzie McGuire, compered the evening and helped raise £4000 for 3 designated charities, Cash for Kids, Mary’s Meals & Chest Heart Stroke Scotland.

McGhee's Continue Partick Thistle Sponsorship
McGhees Bakery are happy to announce a re-newed Sponsorship package with Partick Thistle F.C for the third season in a row.
Part of the Sponsorship agreement involves McGhees Bakery with Kids Go Free to Firhill, which allows under 16’s to go free to all Partick Thistle SFL Home games.

McGhee's have always had strong links with Thistle.
The bakery have been neighbours of the club for years, supporting them through the "Save The Jags" campaign a few years ago when they looked set for closure. After being approached by new Thistle director David Beattie, McGhee's have become official sponsors of The Jags and are expanding their "Crispy Roll" advertising campaign through match sponsorship, pitch side and match programme advertising.

George Bowie, Des and the guys from Clyde Marketing were invited to come along and tour the new McGhees Factory and see from themselves how many Crispy Rolls go through the ovens every day! George said “ it was unbelievable to witness the amount of rolls being baked. We had a great time and managed to take away a couple of samples…Geez McGhees – anytime!

Acquisition of Hayes Bakery...
Further to our recent note, the directors are pleased to announce that the acquisition of Hayes Bakery (incorporating Blairholm Bakery) formally took place today.
Production of the Hayes products will transfer to Keppochhill within the next few weeks, with the incorporation of the van distribution taking place on a phased basis.
The directors look forward to this exciting development in the company's progress and trust that our new colleagues from round the corner will be welcomed into the company by all employees.
